Spyware is a type of malicious software or malware that is installed on a computing device without the knowledge of the end user. It intrudes into the device, steals confidential information and Internet usage data and transfers them to advertisers, information firms or external users.

- A common type of malware is spyware. Spyware collects and extracts information from a person’s or organization’s network and operating systems without the knowledge or consent of the victims.

The main idea is to collect and send sensitive information such as credit card information, passwords for accounts containing sensitive data, online bank account information, and personally identifiable information for use in malicious events.

- The 2021 report found that business malware detections increased by 79% as a result of increased use of spyware and other types of malware.
